چکیده

The effect of NaHCO2 on the growth of Neisseria gonorrhoeae cultures was studied in a liquid and a semisolid growth medium. With a broth culture, NaHCO3 (0.009 M) greatly reduced the lag phase and also increased the total growth. The same concentration of bicarbonate supported rapid growth when added to the semisolid medium if the plates were individually incubated in sealed plastic bags. In a container with a large air space, a higher concentration of NaHCO3 was necessary to support growth. The assimilation of 14C-labeled NaHO3 by growing cultures was also investigated.

A study on the frequency of vaginal species of Mycoplasma genitalium, Gardnerella vaginalis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae among pregnant women by PCR technique

Bacterial vaginosis or non-specific vaginitis describes the disease caused by a change in the normal Flora of the vagina, which leads to the elimination of Lactobacilli, generating hydrogen peroxide and excess growth of bacteria, particularly anaerobic bacteria. This disease is the most prevalent infection of the female genital tract, and the rate of frequency of anaerobic bacteria, specificall...

Ammonium bicarbonate as a replacement for carbon dioxide in Transgrow bottles for primary isolation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Transgrow bottles with medium containing ammonium bicarbonate and Transgrow bottles gassed with 10% carbon dioxide performed equally well in detecting Neisseria gonorrhoeae in 434 clinical specimens. It appears that incorporation of ammonium bicarbonate into the medium increased the efficiency of the manufacturing process while maintaining the effectiveness of the medium.

Neisseria confirmation by an enriched, bicarbonate-containing carbohydrate medium.

A sugar fermentation medium for the confirmation of Neisseria and related species was developed. The medium contained a commercial supplement and a hemoglobin source prepared from lysed sheep erythrocytes. Bicarbonate in the medium substituted for a CO2-supplemented atmosphere. The medium was dispensed into screw-capped tubes. This medium was compared to cystine-Trypticase agar and the modified...

Growth Requirements of N. Gonorrhoeae †

Routine methods for the isolation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae employ various complex media in conjunction with devices designed to supply an atmosphere of approximately 10 per cent carbon dioxide. Recent investigations7 of the CO2 requirement of N. gonorrhoeae have shown that various strains of this microorganism can be grown on a Casamino-salts-glucose agar medium in the absence of CO2, provided ...

Spontaneous Adsorption, and Selective Sensing of CO, and CO2 Greenhouse Gaseous Species by the more Stable Forms of N4B4 Clusters

Carbon oxide gaseous species are potentially considered as pollutants of the atmosphere of earth; especially, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide which are of the well-known carbon oxids, play an effective role in the greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, these species could initiate or handle some chain reactions in the troposphere that lead to emergence of some secondly air pollutants which may ...
